Michelle Leslie Possible Release Soon

Michelle Leslie

Australian model Michelle Leslie : could be released from a Bali jail by the end of next week if she is found guilty on drugs charges, although her lawyers still hope she will be exonerated.

Her trial is due to resume again at the Denpasar District Court next Tuesday.

Leslie had been buoyed by a prosecution decision to drop demands for a maximum 15 year prison term and instead seek only a three-month penalty. The model will have served three months behind bars by the end of this week, and would therefore have served her sentance.

Leslie, 24, was arrested outside a Kuta rave party on August 20 after police allegedly found her in possession of two pink ecstasy pills wrapped in tissue paper.

The defence team is expected to have a clearer idea on Tuesday after prosecutors make their formal sentence request to the three judges who are hearing the case.

If judges agree with the prosecutor, that would mean Leslie could be freed from Denpasar’s Kerobokan Jail by the weekend after next.

It was also unclear whether if upon her release the Adelaide born model would be held in immigration detention until she was formally deported, as expected by Australian consular officials.
